Charleston, WV – A multi-day Flood Watch will take effect across much of West Virginia starting Wednesday evening, as forecasters warn of rising waters due to persistent, heavy rainfall.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, the alert spans from 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, through 8 a.m. Sunday, April 6. Counties under watch include Cabell, Jackson, Mason, Pleasants, Putnam, Ritchie, Tyler, Wayne, Wirt, and Wood. Parts of southeast Ohio and northeast Kentucky—including Athens, Gallia, Boyd, and Greenup—are also included in the alert.
Forecasters expect multiple rounds of rainfall through Saturday night, with runoff likely overwhelming creeks, streams, and low-lying areas. Officials noted the potential for rivers such as the Ohio, Hocking, Muskingum, and Little Sandy to crest above flood stage over the weekend.
Residents in flood-prone zones should prepare now by checking emergency supplies, securing outdoor belongings, and reviewing evacuation routes. Motorists are urged to avoid driving through high water, as even shallow flooding can be dangerous.
Flood warnings may follow if conditions worsen. Updates will be posted at weather.gov/rlx and via social media.
