Charleston, WV – Residents across West Virginia should prepare for heavy rain and potential flash flooding this afternoon and evening as thunderstorms move through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a moderate flood risk is in place today, Wednesday, September 24, 2025, with the highest threat stretching from Charleston to Beckley and Pikeville. Forecasters say rainfall chances remain high through tonight, with probabilities climbing to 80–90% in many areas.

The NWS warns that repeated rounds of storms may lead to localized flash flooding, especially in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Flooded roads, rapid rises on small streams, and hazardous driving conditions are possible.

Looking ahead, rain chances remain elevated into Thursday, with some locations seeing continued 70–90% precipitation chances. The flood risk may persist into the end of the week as the unsettled weather pattern continues.

Officials urge residents to stay weather-aware, avoid flooded roadways, and monitor alerts through NOAA Weather Radio, weather apps, or local news.
