Charleston, WV – Spring weather returns to West Virginia this week, bringing a mix of warm temperatures, gusty winds, and widespread showers across Charleston and surrounding counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, an elevated fire danger is expected Sunday afternoon into the early evening due to dry conditions and breezy winds. Gusts could reach up to 23 mph, particularly near open grasslands and highways like I-64 and Route 119. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning as even small sparks may lead to fast-moving brush fires.

Rain will move in overnight Sunday into early Monday, with showers likely before 3 a.m. New rainfall totals may reach up to a quarter inch. Monday will offer a break in precipitation with highs near 62°F and gusts up to 31 mph, followed by partly cloudy skies Monday night and a low around 38°F.

Showers are expected to return Tuesday afternoon, lasting through Wednesday night, with daily highs in the upper 50s and overnight lows in the 30s. By Thursday, sunny skies will return, pushing highs into the low 60s. Friday will offer an early taste of true spring, with highs climbing to 72°F under clear skies.

Drivers along I-64 should be cautious during morning commutes due to slick roads early in the week. Prepare for shifting weather patterns by keeping rain gear handy and avoiding fire-starting activities outdoors through Sunday evening.
