Charleston, W.Va. – Drivers across Charleston and much of West Virginia are waking up to hazardous travel conditions Sunday morning as dense fog blankets the region. The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Fog Advisory until 9 a.m., with visibility dropping to a quarter mile or less in spots.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, the advisory includes much of southern and western West Virginia, southeast Ohio, and northeast Kentucky. Travel along I-64, I-77, and I-79 will be impacted, with visibility falling sharply in valleys and near rivers. Motorists are urged to slow down, use headlights, and leave extra space on the roads.

Conditions will improve by late morning as fog lifts, giving way to a sunny afternoon with highs near 73. The workweek looks dry and increasingly warm, with highs climbing into the low 80s by Tuesday and mid-80s by Wednesday. NOAA’s extended precipitation outlook places West Virginia in a “below normal” rainfall zone, signaling that dry conditions may persist through mid-September.

While the fog brings a brief hazard today, the bigger picture is a stretch of clear skies and dry weather. Farmers, gardeners, and residents relying on wells should stay alert to soil and water needs if the dry trend continues.

The National Weather Service expects Charleston to remain sunny through next weekend, with no significant rain in sight.
