Charleston, WV – A severe weather pattern is expected to sweep across much of West Virginia starting late Sunday, with damaging winds and hail posing the most significant threats through Monday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a cold front will push into the state late Sunday, March 30, triggering a line of storms—some of which could become severe. Active weather conditions are expected to persist through most of Monday, March 31, with the threat level gradually diminishing from west to east by late afternoon.

The greatest hazard will be damaging wind gusts, although isolated hail and even a tornado cannot be ruled out. Most of the state, including areas such as Huntington, Parkersburg, and Charleston, remains under a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather. Eastern regions including Clarksburg and Elkins fall under a Marginal Risk zone.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, monitor local alerts, and have a safety plan in place should severe weather develop. Travel may be affected during peak storm hours, particularly Monday morning and midday. This system follows a pattern of late-season severe outbreaks typical of early spring transitions across the region.
