Charleston, WV – Rounds of heavy showers and thunderstorms will create unsettled conditions across much of West Virginia this week, bringing a persistent threat of localized flash flooding to the Charleston area that will linger through Thursday evening.

The main concern is localized flash flooding due to heavy rain from Tuesday through Thursday. In addition, isolated severe thunderstorms are possible Tuesday afternoon and again from late Wednesday into Thursday, potentially impacting travel along I-64 and I-77.
On Wednesday, the chance for showers and a possible thunderstorm increases, especially after 2 p.m., with a high temperature around 86 degrees. The stormy pattern continues into the Juneteenth holiday on Thursday, with showers and thunderstorms likely before 2 p.m., followed by a chance of showers and a slightly cooler high near 82. Residents should stay alert to changing conditions and have a way to receive weather warnings. Avoid crossing any roadways covered with water.
The weather will take a welcome turn just in time for the weekend. Friday is expected to become mostly sunny with a high near 86 degrees, leading into a clear and warmer weekend. Saturday will be mostly clear with a high of 89, and Sunday promises sunny and hot conditions with a high climbing to around 95 degrees. Early next week looks to continue the hot and dry trend.
