West Virginia — The air feels mild but unsettled across the Kanawha Valley this morning, with low clouds and mist still hanging over the hills. Roads glisten under the glow of early commuters’ headlights, but drier air is already pushing in—signaling a shift toward cooler, more stable weather just in time for Thanksgiving.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a few early showers may linger through midday before skies begin to clear. Temperatures will climb briefly into the mid-60s, giving the day a spring-like feel. But a gusty west wind—occasionally topping 25 mph—will usher in cooler air by evening as a strong cold front sweeps through.

By Thanksgiving morning, the change will be clear. The air turns crisp, with morning lows in the 30s and highs struggling to reach 41°F. Sunshine will dominate much of the day, creating near-perfect travel weather for those hitting I-64, I-77, or I-79 to visit family. Still, the breeze will carry a bite, so outdoor gatherings and parade-goers should dress in layers.

Friday brings a frosty start, with lows near 26°F and a bright, chilly afternoon around 36°F—ideal for Black Friday shopping or decorating early for Christmas. Saturday stays seasonable, and Sunday warms back to near 60°F as clouds increase and rain returns by late evening.

Looking beyond the weekend, long-range models continue to track a major Arctic front moving into the U.S. from December 1–5, possibly triggering heavy snow across the Midwest and Northeast. For Charleston and surrounding areas, that may mean a stronger push of cold air and early winter conditions as December begins.

Thursday: Sunny, 41°F.
