Snowshoe, WV – Mountain roads in eastern West Virginia could turn snow-covered after 9 p.m. Tuesday, setting up slick and windy conditions through the Wednesday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 9 p.m. this evening until 1 p.m. Wednesday for northwest Pocahontas and southeast Randolph counties. Snow totals between 3 and 5 inches are expected, with wind gusts reaching 40 mph.

Communities including Snowshoe and Harman will see steady snowfall overnight, with the heaviest accumulation likely during the predawn hours Wednesday. Gusty winds may create blowing snow along exposed ridges and higher elevations, reducing visibility on routes such as WV-66 and WV-32.

Drivers should prepare for snow-packed roads, especially on untreated secondary routes and mountain passes. Officials recommend slowing down, increasing following distance and checking the latest road conditions by calling 511 before traveling.

Snow will taper late Wednesday morning, but gusty winds could continue into early afternoon, keeping some roads slick and visibility reduced at higher elevations. Additional advisories may be issued if snowfall rates increase overnight.
