Charleston, West Virginia – Snow is coating roads across central and southern West Virginia, and gusts up to 35 mph could turn the Monday evening commute into a slow, slippery drive before conditions ease overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 a.m. Tuesday for Kanawha, Harrison, Logan, Mingo, Boone, McDowell, Wyoming and surrounding counties. An additional 2 to 3 inches of snow is expected, with gusty winds causing blowing snow and reduced visibility at times.

Roads across Charleston, South Charleston and Saint Albans are becoming slick, especially on bridges and overpasses along Interstate 64 and Interstate 77. Farther north, Clarksburg and Bridgeport could see snow-covered stretches of Interstate 79, while mountain routes near Marlinton and southeast Pocahontas County remain vulnerable to drifting.

State officials urge residents to delay non-essential travel and check 511 for the latest road conditions. If you must travel, allow extra stopping distance, avoid sudden braking and keep an emergency kit in your vehicle. Dress in layers and cover exposed skin if heading outdoors.

Snow will taper late Monday night, but icy spots may linger into early Tuesday. Warnings stay in effect until 1 a.m., and additional advisories are possible if roads remain hazardous.
