Charleston, WV – Snow showers and freezing temperatures have created hazardous conditions across central West Virginia today, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory. Snow is expected to taper off by this afternoon, but icy roads could pose a risk into the evening.
According to the National Weather Service, up to an additional inch of snow is likely through 2 p.m. Temperatures will plunge into the upper teens overnight, creating the potential for slick spots on roads, especially in mountainous regions. Drivers are urged to use caution and monitor updated forecasts before traveling.
Conditions are expected to improve Monday with mostly sunny skies and highs near 33 degrees. However, freezing temperatures will persist, with Monday night lows dipping to 19. Slight chances of snow showers return Monday evening but are unlikely to impact road conditions significantly.
The remainder of the week will see gradual clearing, with Tuesday and Wednesday bringing partly sunny skies and highs in the 30s and 40s. Overnight lows will remain cold, averaging in the low 20s.
Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during icy conditions and to dress warmly when heading outdoors. Check local forecasts regularly for updated information and warnings.
