Charleston, WV – Residents across Charleston and surrounding areas along the I-64 corridor are bracing for extreme cold today and into Thursday morning. A cold weather advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m., with wind chills as low as -10 degrees in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service, dangerously low temperatures will persist through tonight. Residents are urged to take precautions to avoid frostbite and hypothermia, including limiting outdoor exposure and wearing layered, insulated clothing. Pets should also be brought indoors.
Temperatures will begin improving slightly Thursday, with highs expected to reach the mid-30s. A significant warming trend is anticipated by the weekend, bringing daytime highs into the upper 30s to low 40s.

• Thursday: Increasing clouds, high near 34°F. Winds light, increasing to 5–9 mph.
• Friday: Mostly sunny, high near 28°F. Winds calm.
• Saturday: Mostly sunny, high near 39°F.
• Sunday: Partly sunny, high near 41°F. A 30% chance of snow showers late.
• Monday: Partly cloudy, high near 39°F.
While temperatures are expected to rebound, frigid conditions may still pose risks for those without adequate shelter. Emergency warming centers are available throughout the area; residents in need can contact local authorities for assistance.
