West Virginia & Virginia Weather Alert: Bitter Cold Wind Chills Until 10 AM Friday

Charleston, WV – Residents across southeastern West Virginia and southwestern Virginia are facing dangerously cold temperatures this morning as a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. EST Friday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston, wind chills could drop as low as 14 below zero in parts of Raleigh, Fayette, Nicholas, Webster, Pocahontas, and Randolph counties in West Virginia. In Virginia’s Buchanan and Dickenson counties, as well as West Virginia’s McDowell, Mingo, and Wyoming counties, wind chills could reach 1 below zero.

Impacts & Safety Precautions

The extreme cold could lead to frostbite and hypothermia if precautions are not taken. Residents venturing outside should wear layers, a hat, and gloves to minimize exposure. The NWS urges caution when traveling, as icy conditions may also be present.
