Blacksburg, VA – Drivers along the Virginia–West Virginia border are waking up to thick fog and reduced visibility this morning, according to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg. The advisory covers portions of western Virginia, southern West Virginia, and northwestern North Carolina, lasting through 9 a.m. Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service, dense fog will likely develop in valleys and along mountain routes in counties including Tazewell, Giles, Bland, Wythe, and Montgomery in Virginia, and Mercer, Monroe, and Greenbrier in West Virginia. Visibility may drop to near zero at times, especially along high-elevation stretches and rural roadways.

Motorists are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra space between vehicles when traveling through fog-prone areas. The fog is expected to gradually lift by mid-morning as temperatures rise and winds shift.

Commuters along Interstate 77 near Bluefield and Interstate 81 near Wytheville and Pulaski could experience delays or hazardous conditions during early travel hours.

After 9 a.m., improving visibility and calm weather are expected to continue through the afternoon. However, drivers should remain alert for lingering patches of fog in shaded valleys.
