Charleston, West Virginia – Sweltering heat and dangerous storms will dominate Saturday across central and western West Virginia, bringing real risks to residents along I-64 and beyond.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Heat Advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. Friday as heat index values climb toward 101°F. On Saturday, highs will again reach into the 90s with a 60% chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms, particularly after 5 p.m.

Cities including Charleston, Huntington, and Parkersburg are under heightened risk for strong wind gusts, small hail, and heavy downpours late Saturday. Outdoor events, especially in less shaded areas, may become hazardous by mid-afternoon. Drink fluids frequently, limit time outside, and never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.
