Charleston, West Virginia – July 4th festivities across West Virginia will bake under blazing sunshine, with Charleston reaching 91°F Thursday and 94°F by the weekend. Residents should prepare now for sweltering conditions and take precautions if attending outdoor events.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, the region will remain hot and mostly dry through Sunday, with highs in the low-to-mid 90s and mostly clear nights offering little relief. Light winds and strong sunshine will dominate the Independence Day holiday, raising the risk of dehydration and heat-related illness during daytime celebrations.

Charleston’s extended stretch of heat begins Thursday with a high of 87°F, rising to 94°F by Saturday. Expect patchy fog to linger early Thursday before skies clear. July 4th will be sunny with calm winds — ideal for fireworks but not for those spending hours in the sun without shade.

No rain is expected through Sunday, but that changes sharply Monday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms could develop after 4 p.m. Monday and again Tuesday afternoon, bringing a 30% chance of rain both days. Localized downpours could slow traffic on I-64, especially during peak holiday return travel.

Five-Day Charleston Forecast (Friday, July 4–Tuesday, July 9):

  • Friday (July 5): Mostly clear, high 92°F, low 66°F
  • Saturday (July 6): Sunny, high 94°F, low 69°F
  • Sunday (July 7): Sunny, high 94°F, low 71°F
  • Monday (July 8): Mostly sunny early, storms after 4 p.m., high 92°F — 30% rain chance
  • Tuesday (July 9): PM showers and storms, partly cloudy, high 90°F — 30% rain chance
