Canaan Valley, W.Va. – Gardeners in Eastern Tucker County should prepare for an early June chill as temperatures dip to near freezing overnight, threatening sensitive plants.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Frost Advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. Sunday for cities including Canaan Valley, Davis, and Thomas. Temperatures are expected to fall as low as 33°F, allowing frost to form in the early morning hours.

Residents are urged to cover or bring in vulnerable vegetation to prevent damage. Even brief exposure to frost can kill or stunt growth in flowers, herbs, and newly planted vegetables. This advisory marks an unusual cold snap for the region, as overnight lows typically stay in the 40s during early June.

Outdoor growers, especially in low-lying or wind-sheltered areas, should take extra precautions Saturday evening. Light winds and clear skies will enhance radiational cooling, increasing the frost risk.

Temperatures will rebound after sunrise, but similar advisories could return if cool, dry conditions persist. Stay tuned to local weather updates overnight.
