CHARLESTON, W.Va. – A warm, sunny Monday across much of West Virginia will give way to a stormy Tuesday night as a strong system brings heavy rain and possible thunderstorms to the Kanawha Valley and surrounding counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, showers will begin developing by midday Tuesday, with storms intensifying late in the evening. Some areas could see downpours strong enough to cause localized flooding, especially in low-lying or poorly drained areas. Rainfall amounts between one and two inches are possible before conditions begin clearing early Wednesday.
Drivers along I-64 and Route 60 should plan for slick roads and limited visibility overnight Tuesday. Light southeast winds will shift northward by Wednesday, with temperatures falling from the mid-70s Tuesday to around 70°F Wednesday. Power outages are not expected to be widespread, but residents are urged to secure outdoor items and stay weather-aware through Wednesday morning.
Conditions improve midweek, with sunshine returning Thursday and lasting into the weekend.
