Charleston, WV – The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of central and southern West Virginia and parts of southwest Virginia, in effect from 1 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.
Forecasters expect widespread snowfall between 1 and 4 inches, with localized totals up to 5 inches possible across higher elevations, especially in Fayette, Nicholas, Webster, and Pocahontas counties.
The advisory includes major communities such as Charleston, Beckley, Logan, Clay, Welch, and Sutton, along with Buchanan and Dickenson counties in Virginia.
Snow will begin overnight into early Monday morning, continuing throughout the day. The timing is expected to impact both the morning and evening commutes, leading to slick and snow-covered roads in many areas.
Motorists are advised to slow down, increase following distance, and use extra caution when driving, particularly on secondary and mountain roads. The NWS notes that localized heavier snow may develop along higher ridges, reducing visibility at times.
Travelers can check the latest road conditions by dialing 511 or visiting their state’s transportation website.
