Charleston, West Virginia – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for much of the central Ohio Valley, with accumulating snow expected Tuesday across southeast Ohio and large portions of West Virginia.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, snow will begin Tuesday morning and continue through Tuesday evening, with total accumulations ranging from 1 to 3 inches in southeast Ohio and northern West Virginia. Higher totals of 2 to 4 inches are expected across central, northeast, and northern West Virginia, where snowfall may persist into the overnight hours.
The advisory for southeast Ohio and northern West Virginia is in effect from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. EST Tuesday, while additional areas of West Virginia are under advisory from 10 a.m. Tuesday through 1 a.m. EST Wednesday.
Counties included in the advisory span Athens, Washington, Jackson, Vinton, Meigs, Gallia, and surrounding areas in Ohio, along with Wood, Pleasants, Wirt, Ritchie, Harrison, Taylor, Upshur, Randolph, Webster, Barbour, and nearby counties in West Virginia. Cities affected include Athens, Marietta, Parkersburg, Vienna, Clarksburg, Elkins, Buckhannon, Grafton, Weston, and Snowshoe.
Forecasters say the primary concern will be slippery road conditions during both the Tuesday morning and evening commutes. Untreated roads, bridges, and elevated surfaces may become snow-covered, reducing visibility and traction at times.
Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time. Travelers can monitor current road conditions by dialing 5-1-1 or checking their state’s online traffic portals.
Residents are encouraged to stay updated on forecast changes through the National Weather Service, as snowfall amounts may vary by location.
