Glasgow, WV – A teenager was killed early Thursday morning in Glasgow after an accidental shooting, according to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they responded just after midnight, October 2, to a reported shooting in the 300 block of 4th Avenue. When officers arrived, they discovered a teenage male who had been fatally wounded.

According to investigators, two teens had been handling a firearm when one of them allegedly pulled the trigger, not realizing the weapon was loaded. The gun discharged, striking the victim, who died at the scene.

The sheriff’s office noted that preliminary findings indicate the teen who fired did not believe the weapon was loaded. At this time, no further details regarding the victim’s identity or the circumstances surrounding the incident have been released. The investigation remains ongoing.

Sheriff Joe Crawford urged the public to treat every firearm as if it is loaded and to discuss firearm safety with children and teens. “We urge everyone to respect the dangers of firearms and continue to educate youth about the risks of mishandling weapons,” Crawford said in a release.
