Charleston, WV – Residents across Charleston and surrounding areas should prepare for patchy frost overnight into Friday morning, as clear skies and calming winds are expected to cause temperatures to drop into the mid-30s. A Special Weather Statement from the National Weather Service warns that low 30s are possible in isolated valley areas.

With tonight’s forecast calling for clear skies and a low around 37 degrees, the efficient cooling could result in frost developing in the coldest areas, including Teays Valley, Hurricane, and South Charleston. Residents should take steps to protect tender outdoor plants, especially in rural and low-lying areas where temperatures are expected to be the coldest.

Friday will bring sunny skies and warmer conditions, with a high near 71 degrees and calm winds. Friday night will stay clear and cool, with lows around 43 degrees. As the weekend approaches, Saturday will see sunny skies and a high near 76 degrees, making for a pleasant day.

However, rain showers are likely to return by Sunday afternoon, with a 30% chance of showers and a high of 80 degrees. Rain is expected to continue into Sunday night, with a 40% chance of showers overnight, and a low of 48 degrees. Columbus Day will remain mostly sunny, but cooler, with highs near 61 degrees.

With cold overnight temperatures and patchy frost possible tonight, residents in Charleston and the surrounding areas should be mindful of frost risks and protect their plants.
