Charleston, WV – West Virginia residents are urged to prepare for bitterly cold temperatures and strong winds overnight into Thursday morning. A wind advisory is in effect until 7 a.m., with gusts reaching up to 45 mph.
The National Weather Service reports that snow showers late Wednesday night could lead to a light dusting of snow, creating slick spots on untreated roads. Combined with gusty winds, single-digit wind chills are expected early Thursday, making outdoor conditions potentially dangerous.
Drivers are advised to use caution during the Thursday morning commute, particularly in elevated or open areas where winds may be strongest. Securing loose objects, such as holiday decorations, is recommended to prevent property damage.
Looking ahead, Thursday will be mostly sunny with a high of 29°F, though strong winds will persist. Calmer conditions will return Friday, with highs reaching 33°F, and a sunny weekend is expected, with temperatures climbing to 53°F by Sunday.
