Charleston, W.Va. – Scattered showers and thunderstorms continue across much of West Virginia today, but drier and brighter conditions are expected Sunday as high pressure builds into the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, today’s highs will range from the 60s into the mid-70s, with lingering storm chances until late evening. Sunday brings a break in the rain, with sunshine and highs climbing into the upper 50s to mid-70s across the state.

Drivers may encounter wet roads through tonight, particularly along I-79 and Route 50 where heavier downpours could briefly reduce visibility. Once the storms clear, much of the workweek will remain dry with seasonably cool temperatures slowly warming to near normal by Tuesday and Wednesday. Charleston and Huntington should see highs reach the upper 70s to low 80s by midweek, while the mountains hold slightly cooler.

Residents are urged to take advantage of the drier stretch for outdoor plans and travel, but to remain alert for patchy morning fog in valleys early next week. More unsettled weather could return by late week.
