West Virginia wakes up under a gray ceiling and damp pavement, with fog thinning but roads still slick in spots after sunrise. Temperatures are already climbing through the 40s and pushing toward the upper 50s by afternoon, giving the Kanawha Valley a brief taste of early spring warmth before the weekend shift.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, dense fog early reduced visibility below one mile in pockets, but sunshine will break through late morning with highs near 58 degrees. Calm winds dominate today, keeping conditions quiet for now.

That calm fades Saturday. Skies stay bright, and highs reach the mid-60s, but changes build fast after sunset. Showers develop after midnight and continue into Sunday. Plan for wet pavement on I-64, I-77 and Route 119 by late morning Sunday. Highs fall back to the upper 40s.

By Sunday night, colder air filters in. Lows dip near 30 degrees. Any leftover moisture could refreeze toward daybreak Monday, raising a flash-freeze concern on bridges and overpasses. Drivers should allow extra braking distance.

Rain lingers into Monday before tapering. Highs stay in the low 40s. Conditions improve Tuesday with rain likely again and temperatures rebounding into the mid-50s.

Early March brings a gradual warmup. Longer-range signals show above-normal temperatures building by midweek and lasting into next weekend, hinting at stronger spring vibes ahead.
