Baltimore, MD – The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for the high terrain of eastern West Virginia, with strong winds expected from 6 p.m. Saturday through 6 p.m. Sunday across Western Grant and Western Pendleton counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, winds will steadily increase Saturday evening, reaching sustained speeds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts climbing to 50 mph at times. The strongest winds are likely along ridges and exposed areas in the higher elevations.

Communities across the advisory area, including those west of the Allegheny Front, should prepare for conditions capable of blowing around unsecured outdoor objects. According to the NWS, tree limbs may be knocked down during peak gusts, with a few isolated power outages possible, especially in heavily wooded areas.

Forecasters say the winds will remain elevated overnight and persist through most of Sunday before easing around sunset. The long-duration event may increase cumulative stress on weakened trees and overhead lines, raising the potential for scattered service disruptions.

Drivers of high-profile vehicles—such as box trucks, RVs, and vans—should use caution, particularly on east–west roadways where crosswinds may be strongest. Residents are urged to secure outdoor decorations, trash receptacles, and lightweight items that could become airborne.

More updates will be available throughout the day at weather.gov/lwx as well as on the NWS Baltimore/Washington social media feeds.
