Charleston, WV – The National Weather Service in Charleston has extended a Winter Weather Advisory across large portions of West Virginia, northeast Kentucky, and southeast Ohio, warning of continued snowfall and hazardous travel through Monday evening.

According to the NWS, additional snow accumulations will range from 1 to 4 inches, with localized totals up to 5 inches possible across higher ridges in Raleigh, Nicholas, Fayette, and Randolph Counties. In lower elevations, including Charleston, Huntington, and Spencer, accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are likely before tapering off late this afternoon.

The advisory also includes Boyd, Carter, and Greenup Counties in Kentucky, and Lawrence County in Ohio, where roads and bridges could quickly become slick and icy.

Forecasters caution that the morning and evening commutes may both be affected, as snow continues through much of the day before gradually ending tonight. Drivers are urged to slow down, maintain extra stopping distance, and monitor 511 or local transportation websites for current conditions.

Subfreezing temperatures overnight could lead to refreezing and black ice, especially on untreated secondary roads and elevated surfaces.
