Dunbar, WV – Authorities in Kanawha County are investigating a deadly shooting that left one man dead and a juvenile in critical condition early Sunday morning.

According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called around 5 a.m. Sunday to assist Dunbar Police at a home on the 400 block of 16th Street. Investigators said they found 20-year-old Bausley Gwinn-Bowles of Dunbar deceased from a gunshot wound.

Detectives determined that a 17-year-old male allegedly shot Bowles before attempting suicide by shooting himself. The juvenile was taken to CAMC General Hospital, where he remains in critical condition, though officials noted some improvement.

Several other juveniles were inside the residence at the time of the shooting but were not harmed, investigators said. Crime scene units remained at the location for much of Sunday while processing evidence and interviewing witnesses.

The Sheriff’s Office reported that no charges have been filed at this stage of the investigation. Detectives are working with the Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to determine whether criminal charges will be pursued as the case develops.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Detective D.R. Dennison at 304-357-0556 or submit an anonymous tip online at www.KanawhaSheriff.us.
