Charleston, W.Va. – West Virginians will sweat through another stretch of summer heat, with temperatures climbing into the low-90s by Tuesday before thunderstorms break the pattern midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, Tuesday’s high will reach near 93 degrees under sunny skies, with calm winds offering little relief. The heat continues into Wednesday, with highs near 91 before a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms develops after 2 p.m.

Storm chances linger into Wednesday evening, mainly before 8 p.m., with downpours possible in Kanawha, Putnam, and Cabell counties. While severe weather isn’t guaranteed, forecasters warn of brief heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds.

Travelers along Interstate 64 and U.S. Route 60 should prepare for slick conditions during any pop-up storms. Residents are encouraged to limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, drink plenty of water, and keep an eye on weather alerts through midweek.

Thursday brings some relief with highs in the upper 80s and drier air returning, though heat rebounds quickly by Friday with sunshine and highs again near 91.
