Charleston, W.Va. – West Virginians are heading into a summerlike stretch with highs near 90 degrees expected through the weekend, bringing dry skies and bright sun across much of the state. The unusual late-September heat will be most noticeable in Charleston, where temperatures could hit 89 on Friday and 90 by Saturday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, calm winds and clear nights will keep overnight lows between 57 and 65 degrees, offering some relief after hot afternoons. The Kanawha Valley and surrounding counties, including Putnam and Boone, are expected to stay dry until early next week.

Travelers across Interstate 64 and Route 119 should anticipate strong sun glare during peak commuting hours. Outdoor workers and students at Friday night football games will need extra hydration as heat lingers into the evenings. Energy use is also expected to climb as residents turn to cooling systems.

The stretch of sunshine holds until Tuesday, when a 30 percent chance of showers may move in, signaling the first break in the dry pattern. Until then, conditions remain stable with no severe weather risks.
