Charleston, WV – A multi-day flood watch is in effect for much of West Virginia, with significant rainfall expected to impact major cities including Huntington and Parkersburg through Sunday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, the alert begins Wednesday evening and continues through 8 a.m. Sunday. Forecasters expect widespread rainfall totals of up to 3 inches across western West Virginia, with higher amounts likely along the Ohio and Kentucky borders.

Localized flooding is possible in low-lying areas and near small creeks, while larger rivers such as the Ohio and Little Kanawha may experience rising levels by the weekend. Communities in Cabell, Mason, Putnam, and Wood counties are advised to monitor conditions closely.

A cold front stalling over the region will bring repeated rounds of heavy rain and possible thunderstorms. The cumulative rainfall could overwhelm already saturated ground, raising concerns for flash flooding and river surges.

Residents should clear drainage systems, avoid driving through flooded roadways, and remain alert for future flood warnings. Emergency kits, sandbags, and evacuation plans are recommended for flood-prone areas.
