Charleston, WV – Heavy rains from showers and thunderstorms have prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Flood Watch through Monday morning for multiple counties in West Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio. With ground already saturated, additional rainfall could trigger flash flooding, especially in low-lying areas and regions near rivers, creeks, and streams.
According to the National Weather Service, flash flooding could occur due to excessive runoff, with concerns rising in areas already impacted by earlier rainfall. The flood watch extends through Monday morning for counties including Braxton, Calhoun, Gilmer, McDowell, Pleasants, Ritchie, and Wyoming in West Virginia, as well as parts of Kentucky and Ohio such as Greenup, Boyd, and Athens.
Motorists should exercise caution as swollen streams and rivers may flood nearby roads. Residents in flood-prone areas should prepare for potential water rises and be ready to take action if Flash Flood Warnings are issued.
Heavy downpours may continue into Sunday night, so those in flood-prone areas are urged to monitor conditions closely. As of now, the watch remains in effect until Monday morning, with more updates expected.
