Charleston, West Virginia – Slow-moving rain showers could trigger flash flooding across northeast and central West Virginia today, with a Flood Watch in effect until 10 p.m. Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, rainfall totals have already surpassed one inch in parts of the region over recent days. The added threat of additional slow-moving storms today increases the risk for high water, particularly in flood-prone or saturated areas.
The Flood Watch covers cities including Elkins, Clarksburg, Beckley, and Martinsburg, as well as counties like Randolph, Greenbrier, and Harrison. Urban areas, low-lying roads, and creeks are especially vulnerable. Commuters should use caution on Route 50 and I-79 where water can pool quickly during heavy rain.
Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded roads, move valuables to higher ground, and stay tuned to local alerts. Power outages and delays in emergency response are possible in harder-hit locations.
The Flood Watch remains active until 10 p.m., but additional watches or warnings may be issued if rainfall intensifies or lingers beyond expectations.
