Springfield, WV – A Flood Warning remains in effect for the South Branch Potomac River near Springfield as water levels are forecast to rise above flood stage Friday afternoon, impacting Hampshire and Hardy counties.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the river is expected to crest at 15.4 feet by 1 p.m. Friday, slightly above the minor flood stage of 15.0 feet. By the evening, water levels are predicted to gradually recede below flood stage.

At 15.0 feet, localized flooding is expected, particularly along Milleson Mill Road (County Route 28/5) and Clarence Taylor Road (Route 3/7). Meadowlands near the river will see significant water coverage, and the boat launch ramp near the Springfield bridge will also flood.

Residents are advised to avoid flooded roads and report any hazardous conditions to local authorities. The NWS urges motorists to follow the “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” warning, as most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles.
