Charleston, WV – Flood warnings remain in effect for parts of Barbour County as the Tygart Valley River continues to rise, with minor flooding expected in Philippi and Belington through early Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston, the Tygart Valley River at Philippi is forecast to crest at 19.2 feet this evening, just above the 19.0-foot flood stage. Flooding is expected at the intersection of US Route 119 and Truck Route 250, as well as along Sycamore Street and Beech Avenue. The water is expected to recede below flood stage by early Sunday.

In Belington, minor flooding is already occurring, with water levels expected to peak at 16.7 feet Friday afternoon. Some city streets are affected due to storm sewers backing up, and low-lying areas may experience water accumulation. The river is forecast to fall below flood stage just after midnight.

Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads and exercise caution near riverbanks. The next NWS update is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday. For the latest information, visit www.weather.gov/rlx.
