Lincoln, WV – Flooding is occurring in Lincoln County early this morning, with up to 4 inches of rainfall triggering dangerous conditions. Streams and rivers are rising rapidly, and low-water crossings are submerged. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood warning for Lincoln County, lasting until 8:45 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2025.
According to the NWS, the heavy rainfall, combined with runoff from earlier storms, has led to significant flooding. Rivers and streams continue to rise, and areas such as Hamlin and Sweetland are expected to experience the worst of the flooding. Local roads, including low-water crossings, are now impassable due to the rising waters. The rain has tapered off, but the flooding will persist through the morning.
Residents are advised to avoid flooded areas. “Turn around, don’t drown,” says the NWS, urging people to stay clear of flooded roads, especially at night when floodwaters are harder to identify. Emergency responders continue to monitor the situation, and further updates may be issued if conditions worsen.
The flood warning will remain in effect until 8:45 a.m. this morning. As always, stay tuned to local authorities for further instructions and reports on any changes to the situation.
