CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Sunshine dominates today across the Kanawha Valley, but a round of gusty fall showers and thunderstorms is expected to return by Sunday, bringing brief downpours and strong winds before calmer air settles in for the new week. The National Weather Service in Charleston says gusts could reach 30 mph along I-64 and U.S. 119 as a front crosses the state.

According to the National Weather Service, rain and isolated thunderstorms will develop after midday Sunday and continue through evening, especially across southern and central West Virginia. Drivers should prepare for slick roads, wet leaves, and reduced visibility during heavier showers. Outdoor plans—especially tailgates, festivals, or pumpkin patch trips—should be wrapped up by early afternoon as the breeze strengthens.

By Monday morning, showers will taper off quickly, giving way to a bright and comfortable fall day with highs in the mid-60s. Winds will ease, and skies will clear—perfect timing for commuters and outdoor workers.

According to forecasters, the week ahead brings a stretch of seasonable, dry weather with cool mornings and mild afternoons. Highs will reach the upper 60s by Tuesday and Wednesday, with crisp lows dipping into the low 40s. Late-week sunshine and calm winds make for excellent conditions for leaf-viewing drives through the New River Gorge or last-minute Halloween decorating before colder air arrives next weekend.
