Charleston, WV – Residents in Charleston and surrounding areas are bracing for extreme heat as a heat advisory remains in effect through Friday. Temperatures are soaring, with highs reaching 95°F today and 94°F on Friday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). The heat index is expected to climb into triple digits across the lowlands.
The NWS has issued guidelines to help residents cope with the oppressive heat. These include drinking plenty of water, wearing light, loose-fitting clothing, and taking frequent breaks in air-conditioned or shaded areas. Vulnerable populations, particularly the elderly and those with health conditions, are urged to take extra precautions.
As the Labor Day weekend approaches, relief may come in the form of scattered showers and cooler temperatures, expected to begin on Saturday. With highs dropping to the low 80s by Sunday, outdoor activities planned for the holiday may proceed under more comfortable conditions. However, until then, residents should remain vigilant and prioritize their health during this intense heatwave.
