Raleigh County, WV – A man and woman fled the scene of a vehicle crash near the 600 block of Old Eccles Road, leading to an arrest and a wooded area rescue in Raleigh County.

According to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Monday to the crash scene where bystanders had already detained the male driver. The female passenger had fled into a nearby wooded area and was later located by Cpl. J. Howard and his K9 partner, Scio.

The woman was reportedly found injured and unable to move due to a leg injury. Cpl. Howard stayed with her until the Mabscott Fire Department and EMS crews arrived to safely extract her from the woods. She was transported to a hospital for treatment.

The male driver, identified as William Marshall, was arrested by Cpl. S. McClure for allegedly driving on a revoked license – second offense – and is currently held on bond at the Southern Regional Jail.

Sheriff Frank Priddy acknowledged the efforts of the bystanders who initially detained Marshall and thanked both the Mabscott Fire Department and EMS for their swift assistance in the rescue.

The sheriff’s office emphasized that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
