Charleston, WV – Residents across West Virginia are waking up to bone-chilling temperatures Sunday, with highs struggling to reach the freezing mark. Today’s cold weather, coupled with sunny skies, signals the continuation of an unseasonably frigid pattern as the week begins.
According to the National Weather Service, Charleston will see a high of just 32 degrees today, while other areas, like Clarksburg and Beckley, will peak at 29 and 31 degrees, respectively. Overnight, temperatures will plummet to a low of 21 degrees, with calm winds adding to the chill.
Monday brings some relief with highs near 48 degrees under sunny skies, but overnight rain showers are likely to develop after midnight, carrying into Tuesday morning. While Tuesday sees slightly milder weather, Christmas Day on Wednesday will bring a mix of clouds and possible showers after 1 p.m., with highs near 52 degrees.
Drivers should be cautious on roads such as I-64 and U.S. Route 60, especially Monday night into Tuesday when wet conditions may develop. This week’s weather underscores the need for layering up and driving cautiously in changing conditions.
Looking ahead, warmer temperatures return Thursday with a high of 56 degrees, but another round of rain is expected late Friday into Saturday. Plan your holiday travel with potential wet conditions in mind.
