Charleston, WV — Heavy rain continues to impact West Virginia, prompting flash flood warnings across multiple counties. The National Weather Service warns of flooding in low-lying areas, urban streets, and near rivers as storms persist through Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a flash flood warningremains in effect until 6:15 a.m. Thursday for northern Kanawha, northeastern Lincoln, and central Putnam counties. Doppler radar indicates that 1 to 1.5 inches of rain have already fallen, with another inch possible overnight.

Officials urge residents to avoid flooded roadways. “Turn around, don’t drown,” remains the key message, as most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles. Road closures and delays are expected, especially on I-64 and Route 60.

Looking ahead, rain will continue through Saturday, with a brief break on Friday before another system brings heavy showers this weekend. High temperatures will remain in the upper 40s to mid-50s. By Sunday, scattered rain may transition into snow in higher elevations.

Residents should stay updated through NOAA Weather Radio and local alerts. Emergency management teams advise securing outdoor belongings and preparing for potential power outages.
