Charleston, WV – The National Weather Service in Charleston has announced a shift in the forecast gradient for rainfall accumulation due to Tropical Storm Debby. The heaviest rainfall is now expected to impact Pocahontas and Randolph Counties, moving slightly eastward from previous projections.
According to the National Weather Service, while this rainfall is anticipated to benefit recent dry conditions, the narrow mountain drainages in these counties pose a risk for high water issues. Residents in flood-prone areas and narrow drainages are advised to move their property away from vulnerable areas today.
Precipitation from Debby is forecasted to continue through late Friday morning. Afterward, dry conditions are expected to prevail across the region through early next week. The remaining areas of the state will experience considerably less impact from Debby.
The detailed forecast for Charleston includes a 55% chance of rain today, with temperatures reaching a high of 87°F. Friday will see partly cloudy skies with a high of 88°F. The weekend forecast includes sunny skies with temperatures ranging from 81°F on Saturday to 82°F on Sunday. Early next week, the weather is expected to remain mostly clear with temperatures in the low to mid-80s.
