Charleston, WV – Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected to hit West Virginia over the next few days, bringing the potential for heavy rain and localized flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, WV, some storms will contain very heavy rain, with the possibility of an inch or more falling in an hour. The greatest risk for flash flooding is in the mountainous regions and southern coalfields, which have already received significant rainfall earlier this week. The flash flood risk in these areas is heightened due to the saturated ground.

The weather service indicates that while activity will be hit-or-miss, almost everyone in the state should see some rain. Thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rain could occur anywhere, so residents are advised to stay alert for potential localized flooding.

The forecast predicts that the heavy rains will continue through Thursday. However, conditions are expected to improve by Friday, with less humid and drier weather anticipated for the weekend.
