Lubbock, Texas – A round of wintry weather is moving back into the South Plains this morning, bringing a mix of snow showers, cold rain, and occasional wintry precipitation through the late afternoon. While impacts are expected to be limited, drivers across parts of West Texas could encounter slick spots, especially during heavier bursts.
According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, precipitation will spread across the region this morning and continue on and off through the afternoon. The best chance for a light dusting of snow will be across northwestern counties of the South Plains and southern Texas Panhandle, including areas near Friona, Muleshoe, and Plainview. Snow amounts are expected to remain minimal, with most locations seeing little to no accumulation.
Farther south and east, including Lubbock, Levelland, and Brownfield, precipitation is more likely to fall as cold rain or a brief wintry mix. Forecasters note that snowfall should mainly stick to grassy and elevated surfaces, while roadways may briefly become slick if temperatures dip during heavier showers.
Little to no widespread travel impacts are expected, but motorists are urged to slow down on wet or slushy roads and allow extra braking distance. The wintry precipitation should taper off by late afternoon, with cold conditions lingering into tonight. No winter weather advisories are currently in effect, though residents should continue monitoring updates as conditions evolve.
