Lubbock, Texas – Residents across the South Plains, Rolling Plains, and far Southern Texas Panhandle face a slight chance of thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Some of these storms could bring strong wind gusts and large hail.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Lubbock TX, a Hazardous Weather Outlook is in effect for a wide area including Parmer, Castro, Swisher, Briscoe, Hall, Childress, Bailey, Lamb, Hale, Floyd, Motley, Cottle, Cochran, Hockley, Lubbock, Crosby, Dickens, King, Yoakum, Terry, Lynn, Garza, Kent, and Stonewall counties. Spotter activation may be needed this evening across the Rolling Plains. Stay informed by monitoring local news and NOAA Weather Radio for updates.

Thursday, June 19, marks Juneteenth, and the weather is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 95 degrees Fahrenheit. Winds will be light, coming from the southeast at 5 to 10 mph. The clear skies should make for pleasant holiday celebrations across the region.

Looking ahead, Friday will remain sunny with a high near 95 degrees. Winds will shift to the southwest, gusting as high as 25 mph. Saturday continues the trend of sunny conditions with a high near 95 degrees. Sunday brings a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, mostly cloudy, with a high near 93.

The NWS indicates thunderstorm chances return to portions of the region from Sunday through Tuesday, June 24. While specific impacts for next week are still developing, residents should stay prepared for potential renewed storm activity.
