LUBBOCK, Texas – Fall warmth will dominate through Sunday across the South Plains before a weak front brings a few showers and a modest cooldown to start the new week. Sunshine and highs in the mid-80s will make for ideal outdoor plans Friday and Saturday, but residents should stay weather-aware by late Sunday when clouds thicken and a few thunderstorms may approach.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, a 20–30 percent chance of scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will develop late Sunday night into early Columbus Day, mainly along the I-27 corridor from Plainview to Lubbock and south toward Post. Any rainfall should remain light, but gusty winds may accompany stronger cells. Drivers heading north or east Monday morning should watch for slick spots and brief low visibility.

Temperatures will dip slightly behind the front Monday, signaling a subtle shift toward cooler mid-October air. Daytime highs will retreat into the mid-70s early next week with crisp, comfortable mornings returning by Tuesday.

Outdoor events, pumpkin patch visits, and fall festivals should enjoy dry conditions through most of the weekend. Residents are encouraged to hydrate during afternoon warmth, secure loose decorations, and prepare for brief delays if storms materialize Sunday night.

While no frost or freeze concerns are on the horizon yet, cooler air may reach the Texas Panhandle by mid-month, hinting at the first real taste of late-fall weather ahead.
