Abilene, TX – A strong cold front will sweep through the Big Country and Concho Valley this weekend, bringing a sharp cooldown and the first widespread freeze of the season, according to the National Weather Service in Abilene/San Angelo.

Saturday will remain warm and breezy with highs in the upper 70s to upper 80s and light southwest winds. By Saturday afternoon, the front will push into northern areas and continue moving south through the evening, shifting winds to the north at 10–15 mph.

Behind the front, Sunday will be 20–25 degrees cooler, with highs only in the upper 50s to mid-60s. North winds of 15–20 mph and gusts over 30 mph will make it feel even chillier.

Temperatures will fall quickly Sunday night, dipping into the low 30s by Monday morning. A freeze appears likely for most of the region, particularly in rural and low-lying areas. Residents should protect outdoor plants, pipes, and pets from the cold.

The week will start cold but sunny, with a gradual warm-up expected by midweek.
