Lubbock, TX – Dangerous thunderstorms could hit the South Plains Monday afternoon, bringing wind gusts up to 60 mph and pockets of heavy rain. The strongest storms are expected to develop after 1 p.m., impacting Lubbock, Wolfforth, Slaton, and surrounding communities.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, scattered storms are possible each day through Wednesday, with Monday carrying the highest severe risk. Gusty winds could down tree limbs, damage light structures, and create hazardous driving conditions, especially along U.S. 84 and I-27. Outdoor plans and afternoon commutes may be disrupted.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items, charge devices ahead of potential outages, and avoid driving through flooded low-water crossings. Storms are likely to taper off late Monday night before returning Tuesday afternoon with a slightly lower severe risk.

While the heat will ease slightly from Sunday’s 100°F high, humidity and unstable air will keep conditions ripe for repeated storm development through midweek. More advisories may be issued if Monday’s storm threat intensifies.
