El Paso, TX – Residents should brace for a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon, with the strongest activity possible between 4 p.m. and nightfall. The National Weather Service warns these storms could bring lightning, brief heavy downpours, and gusty winds across the El Paso metro and surrounding areas.

According to the National Weather Service, storms may initiate over higher terrain before drifting into the city, impacting neighborhoods from the Upper Valley to the East Side. Winds could gust above 25 mph near storm cells, making evening travel on I-10 and Loop 375 potentially hazardous. Those with outdoor plans should have shelter options ready and remain alert for lightning.

The storm risk is part of a midweek pattern that will keep daily thunder chances alive through Thursday, with highs remaining in the mid-90s. While mornings will stay mostly sunny, storm development will be possible during the late afternoon and evening hours.

Storm threats are expected to ease slightly by Friday, though isolated activity could linger into the weekend. Keep an eye on radar updates and have alternate routes ready during peak storm times.
