Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Texas – Campers, truck drivers, and park visitors in far West Texas could face 65 mph wind gusts Tuesday afternoon, creating dangerous crosswinds along mountain roads and exposed stretches near Guadalupe Mountains National Park.

According to the National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa, a High Wind Warning takes effect at 1 p.m. CDT Tuesday and continues until 11 p.m. CDT across the Guadalupe Mountains of West Texas and southeast New Mexico, including Pine Springs, Queen, and higher elevations above 7,000 feet. West winds are expected to reach 35 to 45 mph, with stronger gusts accelerating through mountain passes.

The strongest impacts are likely along U.S. 62/180 and access roads through Guadalupe Mountains National Park, where steep terrain funnels winds through gaps and ridges. High-profile vehicles such as campers, vans, and tractor-trailers could struggle to maintain control during peak gusts.

Low-flying aircraft near the mountains may also encounter severe turbulence, particularly during the late afternoon and early evening hours when winds typically intensify.

Visitors planning hikes or drives in the park should secure loose gear, avoid exposed ridgelines, and consider delaying travel through mountain passes. Drivers hauling trailers or tall vehicles are urged to postpone travel until winds weaken.

The warning remains in effect through 11 p.m. Tuesday, and additional wind advisories could follow if strong mountain winds persist across the Texas–New Mexico border region.
