Ackerly, TX – A 2.5 magnitude earthquake occurred 34 kilometers west-southwest of Ackerly early Friday morning. The tremor was detected at a depth of 8.7 kilometers at 2:17 a.m. local time.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported the quake, which took place near the Texas cities of Midland and Odessa. Although minor, residents in the surrounding areas may have felt the shake. No damage or injuries have been reported as of Friday morning.

According to the USGS, the quake’s intensity makes it unlikely to cause structural damage. However, locals are encouraged to report if they felt any movement. Reports from residents help scientists better understand how tremors affect different areas.

Earthquakes of this size are not uncommon in West Texas, a region that has seen increased seismic activity in recent years. Citizens can submit their experiences through the USGS website, contributing valuable data for seismic research.
